Patrick Ryan
Financial planner & Director
When I was 19 I discovered how a vulnerable family member had been misadvised by a “respectable” national institution, abusing her trust to their advantage. The value of impartial, independent advice was made obvious to me at that point and has largely defined my career since.
In 1998 I gained my professional qualifications and began advising. 26 years later I still get the same satisfaction from creating solutions to complex situations and explaining them clearly and simply – cutting out the “Financialese” and using Plain English wherever possible. This approach has been particularly effective in my specialist work with both teachers and independent schools involved in the Teacher’s Pension Scheme.
I take a very personal approach to my planning, imagining myself in your position when making a recommendation. If you can’t understand what we’re doing now, how can you hope to in ten years’ time? Investing time and energy to start the process properly means that mutual trust is built more quickly and there is a far greater chance of achieving the right outcomes.
Delivering those outcomes is an enormous privilege, hugely satisfying and not one I take lightly. The smile on the face of a long-standing client, when I first told them they had achieved their financial independence and could leave their exhausting job, remains with me and motivates me to achieve more of the same.
I live in Wimborne with my wife Hannah, our 3 sons and 3 dogs. When family (and pet) life allows I like to indulge in restoring classic cars (rarely a good investment…) and travel to new places.
